WHO ARE WE ?

Hey there Eco Warrior! Want to save the planet but know its going to be difficult on your own. Join up with the AfriOceans Warriors, a unique African tribe, as we become leaders of awareness campaigns for Africa’s oceans.A Blue School Network of 170 schools in 3 years along our coastline...170 000 learners will be reached. AWESOME. If we don't get to your school, get to us by Joining Today! Its that easy and you can form your own TRIBE too.  We need your help. The AWESOME AfriOceans Warriors are the next biggest thing in 2012.

What is the Way of an AfriOceans Warrior?
  •  We have COURAGE - we are not afraid to face our fears and the many challenges presented to us in the battle to save our oceans.
  • We are HONEST - we are honest in our intentions and actions, with others, in what we stand for, and above all with ourselves.
  • We are PERSISTENT - we are incredibly persistent and realize that anything worth accomplishing requires substantial effort and the strength to face adversity.
  • We have COMPASSION - we have an open heart and believe we need to live gently on our planet, and that all creatures have a right to life, no less than ours.
  • We are SINCERE - We will do what we say we will do.  Speaking and doing are the same action.
  •  We are LOYAL - we are intensely loyal to the cause we represent, to the sharks, dolphins, turtles, whales, seals and the 30 million species who depend upon us as they have no voice, and to our fellow AfriOceans Warriors. The only exceptions are those that would cause us to give up the next, and last, attribute.
  •  We have HONOUR - we are mindful of our honour. How we behave is a reflection of who we are. Our honour defines us as an AfriOceans Warrior. We therefore would never be involved in anything that would bring dishonor upon us, the sharks and the oceans we fight for, and our fellow AfriOceans Warriors.

What is the Importance of this Programme?
The oceans are our life support system but they, and our planet's environment in general, are in peril: global warming combined with environmental degradation, fast-dwindling natural resources, and imminent shortages of food is forcing us into a future filled with many uncertainties for our own survival. An army of conservation warriors is urgently needed to help us win the battle against human greed, ignorance and destructive ways. Our children can be these warriors who, with the right leadership and guidance, can influence massive, positive changes in institutional, governmental and business policies.Armed with the correct knowledge and tools these young AfriOceans Warriors will take positive action, raise awareness and help save our oceans by becoming the Voice of our Oceans.

 Who are the AfriOceans Warriors?

So what does the programme involve?

Volunteerism, skills training and giving back to their communities are all key parts of the Programme, which is made up of 5 different parts:

  • A Blue Schools Network with Tribes formed at each school,
  • A unique Big Blue Life Sciences Curriculum
  • Life Intervention Programme for struggling learners
  • Survivor Challenge series pitting Tribes against Tribes,
  • and a Young Filmmakers Component that imparts new skills to the AfriOceans Warriors, whilst they share all their action on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
When does it start and for how long?                                                              Starting with 20 identified Senior and Junior schools who will participate in 2012 in the South Peninsula, Cape Town, they will be joined by 50 schools that will join them in 2012/2013 in the Cape Town Metropole. Then in 2013/2014, 100 more schools will join them nationally, along the coastline. These 170 schools will be integrated into the internationally recognized Eco Schools programme to ensure continuity and sustainability.
