THE RETHINK THE SHARK is one of our awareness campaigns. It was created by Saatchi & Saatchi and produced by the production company, Groundglass, in Cape Town in 2005, for the M-Sea Programme, a unique shark scientific research and awareness campaign, an AfriOceans Conservation Alliance initiative, in collaboration with Two Oceans Aquarium.

Assisting in changing peoples perceptions of sharks was one of our main objectives for the M-Sea Programme, a challenge we presented to Saatchi & Saatchi to creatively help us solve. Through a series of creative meetings with Saatchi & Saatchi, the Rethink the shark was born! Saatchi designed a number of elements for the campaign, including three television commercials and three supporting posters.
For a period of time the Save Our Seas Foundation, a previous AfriOceans sponsor, ran with our campaign internationally without giving us credit for our work. It is important to note that the campaign, however, does not belong to the Foundation nor was it their creative idea, produced or funded by them as many are led to believe. It belongs to AfriOceans and as such we continue to drive our campaign as the AfriOceans initiative it is.
This is an incredible campaign, which is yet to reach its full potential, and for all the awareness it has already generated we would like to thank Saatchi & Saatchi, Cape Town, Groundglass and the Two Oceans Aquarium for helping us make a difference!
