Education

Sit down before fact like a little child, and be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss Nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.
Thomas Henry Huxley

Education and Training Courseware Development

AOCA recognises that ongoing education and training plays a vital role in conservation and it is therefore a central AOCA goal. AOCA’s educational activities will cut across the full spectrum of the educational sector, which include primary, secondary, tertiary education and adult skills development areas. Moreover AOCA will use its knowledge and expertise in this area to generate substantial organisational revenues via the following:

Production of formal and informal ocean conservation educational materials - (print, video and interactive multimedia) for third parties
Commissioning, production and sales of educational materials - (textbooks and teaching aids etc.)

Our Current Focus Areas

AOCA is currently involved in the development and production of the following educational, awareness and training material:
Educational and Awareness Material:
AOCA is involved in the development and production of educational and awareness resources such as workbooks, posters, public signage, aquarium displays and educational videos. Educational material is distributed to schools, aquariums, museums and other educational outlets. With the assistance of established educational departments such as the Two Oceans Aquarium, an AOCA alliance partner, educational material is also distributed during teacher and pupil workshops and outreach programs. Outreach programs reach coastal schools unable to attend workshops.
Documentary Films:
AOCA is involved in both the production and post-production of various documentaries that focus on marine topics and ocean conservation.
Training Videos:
AOCA has produced videos that serve as teaching aids for the training of on board observers for Capricorn Fisheries Monitoring.
